Why we founded NZHI? Quite obvious.

Doctors, nurses and support staff at hospitals and healthcare organisations are working 24/7 to treat patients with the highest quality of care. They arrange laboratory tests and scans as quickly as possible, drive many miles in their ambulances to provide the best care and try to stay positive. Working in healthcare is every day between a laugh and a tear!

Unfortunately, the current organisation of our healthcare system causes huge negative externalities: healthcare consumes huge amounts of gas and electricity in sometimes old facilities, containers full of single-use consumables are used day in and day out, huge mountains of waste are created, and the production of medicines generates a large amount of CO2 emissions.

It is a paradox that a system that tries to improve the health of individuals and the population is currently still contributing to the problem of climate change, which is a major threat to people's health. Did you know that healthcare produces more CO2 emissions than global aviation?

There is no doubt that healthcare can, should and will contribute to reversing this trend. That's why we founded Net Zero Healthcare Impact. We help hospitals, medical departments and other relevant actors in healthcare with their move to net zero.
