A net zero medical department
How to make your medical department sustainable
Staff involvement
Your medical staff will be satisfied that they can combine their caring duties with caring for the planet.
Sustainable care
We reduce the department's CO2 impact by selecting circular alternatives and reducing waste.
Cost awareness
Our combined environmental and economic focus will help your department cut costs.
Since you're here, you are probably wondering what you can do about the ecological impact of your medical department, for instance the huge piles of waste you and your team create day in and day out.
You're probably eager to go circular. Do you have any idea of the real climate impact certain polluting pharmaceuticals have? We do.
At NZHI, we map the impact per medical department and determine where things can be improved.
We focus on ecologically and economically interesting and valuable alternatives.
With the NZHI tool, this is how it goes.
Step 1 - Scan and analysis
It all starts with data. We comprehensively analyze your department from purchases to consumption and waste in 10 sub-areas. Yes, we literally go through the waste containers. This is how we map the impact in detail.
Step 2 - Reporting
Our report tells you what's the current situation and climate impact of your medical department. We also map your costs in terms of single use goods purchases, pharmaceuticals and waste.
We identify improvement opportunities where ecological, economical and HR gains are possible. We organize a joint session with interested members of the team to get a better view on the possible gains. You receive this in a complete and accessible report.
Step 2 may be the final step with NZHI, or a department can opt to continue the trajectory with NZHI.
Step 3 - Selection and implementation
Together with the stakeholders of your department, we review the report and determine what changes and improvements we can implement to improve your department's ecological and economic performance.
Where is the low-hanging fruit that we can implement immediately? What steps require more negotiations in the first 1 – 2 years?
We monitor the implementation and make sure the train stays on track. This is how you create real impact and permanently reduce your department's emissions and costs. If necessary, we develop communication strategies to get your whole team on board.
Step 4 - Annual sustainability report
You can opt to do the entire steps 1 – 3 once and optimize everything on a project basis or you can opt to include environmental aspects in your annual report and monitor your annual progress. The EU Green Deal places ESG (environmental, social, governance) reporting on par with financial reporting through CSRD legislation and we believe this also makes your department future proof from a compliance perspective.
